3M is committed to providing an inclusive workplace where all individuals feel safe, respected, valued for their unique abilities and free to be themselves. As part of this commitment, Chairman and CEO Mike Roman announced at 3M’s annual Global Inclusion Day, that 3M is joining other companies around the world to support the United Nations Women’s Empowerment Principles and the United Nations LGBTI Standards of Conduct for Business.
These United Nations standards recognize that more must be done to achieve equal treatment for women and individuals who identify as lesbian, gay, bi, trans and intersex (LGBTI) around the globe – and that companies play an important role in advancing equity.
“At 3M, we know that building a more diverse and inclusive culture is a competitive advantage, one that makes us a more creative and stronger performing company. Ultimately, it enables us to deliver on our promises to our stakeholders," Mike said. "By supporting these global standards, we are publicly demonstrating our commitment to our values, showing our support for women and LGBTI+ employees and promoting equal opportunity around the world. Going forward we will continue to ensure that every person at 3M feels included and respected; encouraged and supported to be their very best.”
In support of these standards, 3M has joined other companies who have committed to having processes, policies and programs in place that promote equality and safety, prevent harassment and discrimination, and advance women and LGBTI individuals in the workplace and the community. 3M is proud to uphold these global standards as we continue to prioritize inclusion and diversity worldwide.
Two of 3M’s nine employee resource networks, the Women’s Leadership Forum (WLF) and 3M Pride, have played instrumental roles in identifying opportunities to further inclusion and advance women and LGBTI individuals. The WLF has now more than 65 chapters worldwide, and 3M Pride has expanded to more than 10 chapters around the globe.
Committing to the United Nations standards was one of the first actions of 3M’s CEO Inclusion Council. Formed in fall 2018, the CEO Inclusion Council is a diverse group of 3M leaders, including representatives from 3M’s employee resource networks, who meet quarterly to focus on action planning for inclusion and diversity initiatives.
