We are proud to announce that 3M has been named one of the 2019 World’s Most Ethical Companies by Ethisphere for the sixth year in a row.
Ethics are built into the culture at 3M; in fact, this past year, in a video series created for employees, 3M leaders shared ethical dilemmas they’ve faced in their careers and how they overcame them. The videos made a strong statement to employees that leadership at 3M doesn’t just talk about the importance of honesty and integrity – they live these values themselves, and it’s critical for employees to do the same.
In 2019, 3M employees around the world who aren’t in leadership roles will also have the chance to share their stories about having the courage to speak up and do the right thing through a new video series called My Moment of Truth. Through these activities, 3M hopes to continue to foster an environment of integrity and honesty.
Being an ethical company is non-negotiable at 3M. It also gives us a competitive advantage. According to February 2018 Consumer Research from Voya Financial, when consumers were asked what messages would make them most interested in doing business with a company, ‘Most Ethical’ scored highest – above being named on the Fortune 500 and Fortune’s World’s Most Admired Companies list. But ethics are about much more than just winning business – it is about creating a culture of transparency and honesty, both internally and with customers and partners.
This is a point Mike Roman, 3M’s CEO, emphasizes often. As he’s told employees time and time again: “Great and enduring companies are driven by purpose and built on a foundation of trust – trust we’ve earned from our customers, shareholders, employees, communities, and partners. We owe it to all who count on us to do business the right way, at all times and under all circumstances.”
